That blank slate is a gift when it's designed all at once, patio, pergola, kitchen, fire table, and planting laid out together so nothing feels added on later, with one clean set of grades, drainage, and lighting instead of a patchwork of weekend projects.

In the master-planned neighborhoods out here, First Colony, Riverstone, Telfair and the rest, the houses are newer and the outdoor space is often the last thing to get finished. We design the whole yard as one project so the finished result reads as intentional, not accumulated.
